SAN ANTONIO, May 16, 2025 ~ The U.S.-Mexico Border Philanthropy Partnership (BPP) has recently announced the launch of a groundbreaking series of publications called Border Briefs. These publications, created in collaboration with renowned borderlands scholar Dr. Paul Ganster of San Diego State University, aim to provide in-depth and evidence-based insights on six key themes that are shaping life and policy in the border region: Health, Environment, Education, Migration, Philanthropy, and Border Dynamics.

The BPP hopes that these briefs will inform funders, policymakers, and stakeholders on how migration between the U.S. and Mexico has influenced the existing dynamics in the border region. To mark this milestone, the BPP will be hosting an official launch event on May 15th, 2025 at the North American Development Bank (NADBank) in San Antonio, Texas. The event will bring together leaders from the public, private, and civic sectors who are committed to promoting cross-border collaboration.

The program for the event will include opening remarks by John Beckham, Managing Director of NADBank. Andy Carey, Executive Director of BPP, will then present the Border Briefs and highlight their key findings and aspirations. This will be followed by a moderated panel discussion led by Elaine Ayala, Metro Columnist at the San Antonio Express-News. The panelists will include Dr. Rod McSherry from the University of Texas - San Antonio; Dr. Lyssa Ochoa from San Antonio Endovascular Clinic (SAVE Clinic); Jordana Barton-Garcia from TX Rio Grande Valley Broadband Coalition; and Morris Smith from Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages.

According to Carey, this event is not only a celebration but also a call to action for changemakers to come together and explore new models of cooperation and shared investment in the future of the borderlands. He believes that too often the border is misunderstood and seen only through the lens of crisis, and the Border Briefs aim to challenge that narrative by providing real data, local voices, and constructive pathways forward.

The event is sponsored by NADBank and Arca Continental Southwest Beverages. Registration for the event is free and can be done through the BPP website at www.borderpartnership.org. The BPP hopes that this launch event will serve as a catalyst for positive change in the border region and bring attention to the pressing challenges and untapped opportunities in this unique area.
