~ In a ceremony held in Austin today, First Lady Cecilia Abbott recognized and congratulated the recipients of the Outstanding Women in Texas Government 2024 awards. The event, hosted by the Governor's Commission for Women and the State Agency Council, honored women who have made significant contributions to the state through their talents and skills.

During her keynote speech, First Lady Abbott emphasized the importance of women investing in themselves and inspiring change in others. She stated that these women represent the greatest potential for growth in Texas and encouraged them to continue leading with kindness and faith in their families, communities, and the future.

The 2024 honorees were selected by an independent committee from nominations submitted by their respective state agency leadership. The four categories for which they were recognized are rising star, community investment, professional development, and outstanding leadership.

Monica Huffer, Portfolio Director at Texas Municipal Retirement Systems, was awarded the Rising Star title for her notable achievements early on in her career. Angie McCown, Director of TDCJ Victim Services Division at Texas Department of Criminal Justice, received the Community Investment award for her dedication to serving victims of crime.

Marie Cohan from Texas Department of Information Resources was recognized for her role as Statewide Digital Accessibility Officer with the Professional Development award. And finally, Mary Landrum from Texas Department of Insurance and Margo Richards from Lower Colorado River Authority were both honored with Outstanding Leadership awards for their exceptional contributions to their respective fields.

The biennial Outstanding Women in Texas Government Award aims to highlight women who are shaping the future of Texas through their work. The Governor's Commission for Women works towards promoting opportunities for women through outreach, education, research, and referral services while the State Agency Council offers professional development training to its members.
