In a statement released today, Governor Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources.

The governor urged residents in East Texas and the Coastal Bend to remain weather-aware and be mindful of flash flood risks. He emphasized the importance of taking precautions and following safety measures during severe weather events. "Today, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources to support local officials with flood response operations," said Governor Abbott.

According to the National Weather Service, multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected throughout the weekend, increasing the risk of flash flooding in the southern half of the state.
