~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Carrollton has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). This recognition comes after the city completed a multi-step certification process. The Music Friendly Texas program, which was introduced by TMO in 2016, aims to promote music business-related economic development and job creation in cities and communities across Texas.
In a statement, Governor Abbott congratulated Carrollton on earning this designation and emphasized the importance of music to the state's brand and cultural traditions. He also highlighted the efforts of Music Friendly Texas Communities in attracting and developing the local music industry, which has contributed significantly to job creation and economic growth in Texas.
Representative Julie Johnson expressed her pride in representing Carrollton and its diverse community, stating that this designation will showcase the city as a hub for music and cultural events in Texas. Representative Benjamin Bumgarner also commended Carrollton for its vibrant music scene, citing events like The Festival at the Switchyard as examples of how the city brings people together through live music.

Carrollton Mayor Steve Babick noted that cultural experiences have been an important aspect of their community's feedback, as seen in their Destination 2040 plan. He also expressed gratitude for being recognized for their quality music events and being on a shortlist for music entertainment stakeholders to consider when selecting venues or locations.
City of Carrollton Executive Director of Development Ravi Shah echoed these sentiments, stating that this certification will make it easier for musicians and event organizers to choose Carrollton as a Music Friendly Texas community over other locations.
The Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony will be held on November 2nd at 6:45 PM as part of the day-long Festival at the Switchyard. The ceremony will be co-hosted by TMO and the City of Carrollton and will feature performances by The Wallflowers and Deep Blue Something. TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro will present the designation to city officials and community leaders.
