~ The City of Dalhart has been designated a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). Governor Greg Abbott congratulated the city on their achievement, noting that music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in its cultural traditions.

Mayor Justin Moore expressed his excitement for the designation, noting that it sends a message to residents that they are always looking for ways to improve their quality of life and communicates to the music industry that they are serious about growing it in Dalhart. Joe Livingston, Dalhart EDC Director, added that earning the Music Friendly Texas Community designation is a great accomplishment and benefit for Dalhart. It helps grow jobs, tourism, and their economy while strengthening Dalhart's brand as a community.

Community Development Manager Bryce Jones noted that the designation not only shows their commitment to attracting talent to perform in Dalhart but also their commitment to furthering music education in the area. The north plains region of the Texas Panhandle has contributed significantly to Texas' music identity, and Dalhart is eager to continue that cultural tradition in a way that benefits its residents and businesses.

The Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony will be held on Monday, September 25th during a special City Council Meeting at 6:00 PM at Dalhart City Hall. TMO Community Relations & Outreach Specialist Chip Adams will present the designation and members of the public are invited to attend.

Dalhart becomes the 46th Music Friendly Texas Certified Community since TMO introduced this program in 2016 with an aim of fostering music business-related economic development and job creation in Texas cities and communities. Last year alone, with support from TMO, the Texas music industry accounted for more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generated more than $26 billion in economic activity statewide.

Governor Abbott concluded by saying they will continue working alongside local leaders across every region of their state to ensure communities have the tools needed to create even greater opportunity.
