~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Sweetwater has been designated as a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Film Commission. This recognition comes after the city successfully completed a multi-step training and certification process.
With this designation, Sweetwater joins over 175 other communities in Texas that have received this recognition. Governor Abbott congratulated Sweetwater on their achievement and highlighted the benefits of being a Film Friendly Texas Community.
Through the training and certification process, these communities are equipped to match local businesses with production-related needs, creating job opportunities for Texas-based crew members and residents. This also leads to increased spending at local businesses, boosting the economy.
Senator Charles Perry, who is a graduate of Sweetwater, expressed his pride in seeing his hometown receive this designation. He believes that it will showcase Sweetwater's unique character and economic potential, opening doors for job creation and local investment through film and media production.

Representative Stan Lambert also praised Sweetwater's designation as a Film Friendly Texas Community. He thanked Governor Abbott for his support in promoting local job creation in West Texas. For over 50 years, the Texas Film Commission has played a crucial role in promoting Texas as a premier destination for various forms of media production such as film, television, commercials, animation, visual effects, video games, and extended reality. Through their efforts, they have attracted over $2.5 billion in local spending and created more than 189,000 production jobs across the state from 2007 to 2024.
