~ In the aftermath of last week's severe storms in South Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to assist affected communities. The governor has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to request the involvement of officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in conducting joint preliminary damage assessments.
These assessments will play a crucial role in determining whether Texas meets the federal thresholds for various forms of disaster assistance. Governor Abbott emphasized the state's commitment to providing all necessary resources to help Texans rebuild and recover from the storm damage.
"I requested the U.S. Small Business Administration join state and local officials to assess storm damage to homes and businesses in affected communities," said Governor Abbott. "This effort will help federal officials determine if Texas qualifies for low-interest loans so communities have the financial assistance they need to rebuild and recover."

Texans are urged to self-report any storm damage to their homes or businesses through TDEM's Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) damage survey. This information is crucial in identifying impacted areas and connecting Texans with resources.
The governor also activated state emergency response resources ahead of the severe weather, providing support for local officials and first responders during this challenging time.
As officials continue to review self-reported damage information, impacted Texans are encouraged to submit details about their homes or businesses by visiting damage.tdem.texas.gov. The state remains committed to helping its citizens move forward and rebuild after this devastating storm.
