~ In the aftermath of severe storms and tornadoes that recently hit Southeast Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to assess the damage and determine if federal disaster assistance is needed. He has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to request officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to join state and local partners in conducting joint preliminary damage assessments.
According to Governor Abbott, these assessments are crucial in providing accurate information on the ground and securing federal assistance for those who have been affected by the storms. The federal teams are expected to arrive this week and work alongside state and local officials.
In a statement, Governor Abbott urged affected Texans to report damages to their homes or businesses through TDEM's iSTAT survey. This will help officials identify areas where damage has occurred and provide necessary support for rebuilding and recovery efforts.

The governor also activated state emergency response resources ahead of the severe weather, increasing the readiness level of the Texas State Emergency Operations Center. This was done in order to support local officials and first responders with response operations.
As officials continue to review self-reported damage information through TDEM's Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) survey, they urge affected Texans to report any storm damage using the iSTAT damage survey at damage.tdem.texas.gov when it is safe to do so.
Governor Abbott's swift actions demonstrate his commitment to ensuring that communities in Southeast Texas have all the necessary resources and support they need during this difficult time. Together with state and federal partners, they will work towards rebuilding and recovering from these devastating storms.
