~ Leakey, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO), in partnership with the City of Leakey and Visit Leakey, will be hosting a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, November 4. The workshop will be held both in-person and virtually at the Real County Community Initiative in Leakey.
According to Governor Abbott, music is a crucial part of the Texas brand and plays a significant role in local economies. He expressed his gratitude to the TMO for their efforts in helping communities across the state develop creative partnerships and create new job opportunities. With support from the TMO, the music industry in Texas has contributed to over 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates more than $26 billion in annual economic activity.
The workshop will feature TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro, who will explain the Music Friendly Texas Community designation and its benefits. She will also be available to answer any questions from participants.

The Music Friendly Texas program was introduced by TMO in 2016 and is the first of its kind in the nation. It provides communities with a network for fostering music industry development and sends a clear message to industry professionals that certified communities are serious about attracting and developing music industry growth. The Leakey workshop is the first step towards certification, which would make Leakey one of over 65 other cities in Texas that have earned this designation.
Musicians, venues, and members of the general public are welcome to attend either in-person or online through a virtual platform. The workshop will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 4 at Real County Community Initiative located at 547 US Hwy 83, Suite C in Leakey.
