~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO) and Visit Pearland will be co-hosting a workshop on June 24 in Pearland. The workshop will be both virtual and in-person, providing an opportunity for musicians, venues, and the general public to participate.
According to Governor Abbott, music is a crucial part of the Texas brand. He expressed his gratitude towards the TMO for their efforts in helping communities across the state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The music industry in Texas accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. By working alongside local leaders like those in Pearland, Governor Abbott believes that Texas communities will have the necessary tools to succeed.
The workshop will feature TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro, who will explain the Music Friendly Texas Community designation and its benefits. She will also be available to answer any questions from participants.

The Music Friendly Texas program was introduced by TMO in 2016 and is the first of its kind in the nation. It provides communities with a network for fostering music industry development and sends a clear message to industry professionals that certified communities are serious about attracting and developing music industry growth. The Pearland workshop is the first step in the certification process, with more than 80 other cities already earning this designation.
