~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that seven independent school districts (ISDs) in Texas have been awarded a total of over $1.3 million in dual credit grants. These grants, provided by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), aim to prepare students for high-demand and well-paying jobs after they graduate.

According to Governor Abbott, Texas is the envy of America when it comes to its highly skilled and diverse workforce. He believes that these dual credit grants will play a crucial role in ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills and equipment to succeed in their future careers. By investing in the future of the workforce, Governor Abbott hopes to boost the state's economy and provide opportunities for Texans across all regions.

TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel also expressed his support for these grants, stating that they provide students with real-world experiences that will help them thrive in high-demand industries such as nursing, welding, and carpentry.

The funding for these grants comes from TWC's Skills Development Fund, which aims to support and expand dual credit and career and technical education (CTE) programs that cater to local industry demands. These programs also allow high school students to earn college credit while pursuing their long-term career goals.

The seven ISDs receiving dual credit grants are Brooks County ISD, Deweyville ISD, La Pryor ISD, Panther Creek ISD, Pawnee ISD, Santa Gertrudis ISD, and Zapata County ISD. Each district will use the grant money to purchase new equipment or repair existing equipment for their CTE programs.

Brooks County ISD will receive $218,418 for an HVAC program while Deweyville ISD will receive $220,000 for a carpenter program. La Pryor ISD has been awarded $220,000 for a nursing program while Panther Creek ISD received $41,452 for a welding program. Pawnee ISD and Zapata County ISD will both receive $220,000 for their welding programs, and Santa Gertrudis ISD will use their grant of $210,445 for a medical program.
