~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded seven Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants totaling $1,692,417 to schools in South Texas. These grants will support career and technical education (CTE) training programs by providing funding for the purchase and installation of equipment to train 482 students for high-demand occupations such as nursing, electrician work, and mechanics.

Governor Abbott expressed his support for these programs, stating that they are crucial in ensuring that young Texans have the necessary tools to compete in today's job market. He also emphasized the importance of preparing students for well-paying careers directly after graduation. The governor thanked the TWC for their efforts in training Texans for better job opportunities and higher pay.

TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel echoed Governor Abbott's sentiments, stating that these grants will help over 480 students gain the skills and experience needed for in-demand careers. He also highlighted TWC's commitment to investing in a dynamic workforce system that will continue to drive economic growth and make businesses more competitive.

Funded by the Texas Legislature every two years, JET grants are used by TWC to cover start-up costs for developing or expanding CTE programs at public community, state and technical colleges, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools. The equipment purchased through these grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
