~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that Western Texas College has been awarded a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant of over $331,400 by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). This grant will support career and technical education (CTE) training by providing the necessary funds for the school to purchase and install equipment that will train students for high-demand occupations.

Governor Abbott expressed his belief that Texas remains the Best State for Business due to its continued investments in a highly skilled workforce. He stated, "This grant will support career and technical education programs that will equip hardworking Texans with the skills they need to thrive in high-demand industries across our great state." The governor also thanked the Texas Workforce Commission for their efforts in strengthening the state's workforce and creating a brighter economic future.

TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel also commented on the importance of this grant, stating that Texas continues to attract new businesses that have a demand for skilled workers. He believes that this JET grant will help future electrical power-line installers gain hands-on experience and succeed in their careers.

The award was presented earlier today by TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza at a ceremony attended by state and local officials, CTE students, and school staff at Western Texas College. The JET grant will initially train 30 students as electrical power-line installers and repairers.

Funded by the Texas Legislature every two years, TWC uses JET grants to cover start-up costs for developing career and technical education programs at public community, state, and technical colleges, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools. The equipment purchased through these grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.

With this latest grant awarded to Western Texas College, it is clear that both the state government and the Texas Workforce Commission are committed to investing in the future of Texas' workforce and economy.
