~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that four schools in the East Texas region have been awarded Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). These grants, totaling over $911,500, will support career and technical education (CTE) training programs by providing funding for equipment purchases and installations. This will allow the schools to initially train more than 470 students for high-demand occupations such as welders, nurses, and mechanical engineers.

Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in the future workforce as the Texas economy continues to thrive. He stated, "Through these job training grants, Texas continues to support career and technical training programs so young Texans can be competitive in high-demand industries and help meet the needs of our growing state." He also thanked TWC for their efforts in preparing students for well-paying jobs that will support themselves and their families in the booming economy.

TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel echoed this sentiment, praising the East Texas education partners for their role in providing valuable experience to hundreds of young Texans. He stated, "Today's JET grants will help schools purchase and install high-quality equipment to allow students the opportunity to succeed in the workforce."

The awards were presented earlier today at a ceremony attended by state and local officials as well as school staff at Texas State Technical College's Marshall campus. TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza presented the awards.

The four JET grants include $337,026 to Angelina College to train 90 students as welders, $89,480 to Bullard Independent School District (ISD) in partnership with Tyler Junior College to train 266 students as registered nurses, $135,027 to Carthage ISD in partnership with Panola College to train 50 students as welders, and $350,000 to Quitman ISD in partnership with Texas State Technical College - Marshall to train 70 students as mechanical engineers.

Funded by the Texas Legislature, TWC's JET grants aim to defray start-up costs for developing or expanding career and technical education programs in public community, state and technical colleges, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools. The equipment purchased through these grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
