~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved his request for a disaster declaration for Southeast Texas communities affected by severe weather and tornadoes in December. This declaration includes 12 counties in Texas: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Walker, Waller, and Wharton.
Governor Abbott expressed his commitment to providing resources and support to help Texans in Southeast Texas recover from the devastating tornadoes. He stated that with this disaster declaration in place, qualifying individuals and businesses will have access to crucial financial assistance to rebuild their homes and establishments that were damaged by the severe weather.
The SBA has granted access to its Home Disaster Loans, Business Physical Disaster Loans, and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program. These low-interest loans will be available to homeowners, renters, and businesses in the affected communities.

Applicants can apply for these loans online at sba.gov/disaster or by calling SBA's Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955. For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, telecommunications relay services can be accessed by dialing 7-1-1. Completed applications should be mailed to U.S. Small Business Administration's Processing and Disbursement Center in Fort Worth.
Governor Abbott has been taking swift action to provide support to the communities impacted by the severe storms and tornadoes last month. This includes activating state emergency response resources ahead of severe weather threats and directing TDEM (Texas Division of Emergency Management) to work with local and federal partners to conduct joint preliminary damage assessments.
Once an analysis of the damage was conducted, Governor Abbott requested an SBA disaster declaration. This will ensure that impacted Texans have access to all necessary resources as they work towards rebuilding their lives after this natural disaster.
The Governor's office continues to monitor the situation and provide all available resources to support the affected communities. With this disaster declaration in place, it is hoped that the road to recovery will be smoother for those impacted by the December severe storms and tornadoes.
