~ In a move to support the live music industry in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Music Office (TMO) have announced the opening of applications for the second year of the Texas Music Incubator Rebate (TMIR) Program. This program, first introduced by Governor Abbott in 2023, aims to provide qualifying music venues and festival promoters with a full or partial rebate of certain taxes.
With $20.2 million allocated for the biennium in the 88th Legislative Session, applications for Fiscal Year 2024 funding are now open until November 30. Governor Abbott expressed his belief that "Texas is where live music lives" and highlighted the importance of a vibrant local music industry in attracting investments, diverse talent, and new jobs to the state.
According to TMO Director Chip Adams, spaces for live music are not only crucial for the economy but also play a significant role in enhancing quality of life. As administrators of the TMIR Program, TMO is proud to continue their work in supporting the Texas music industry. Adams stated that this program serves as a valuable source of assistance for music businesses looking to create jobs across Texas.
