~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of five individuals to the Texas Historical Commission, a state agency responsible for preserving and promoting the state's rich historical heritage. The appointees include Mike Hagee, Kay Hindes, Dick Tips, John W. Crain, and Gilbert E. "Pete" Peterson III.

Mike Hagee, a resident of Fredericksburg, brings a wealth of experience to the Commission. He is a retired Commandant in the U.S. Marine Corps and former CEO of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. Hagee also serves on various boards such as Montabaur Sister City Verein, Securing America's Future Energy, and the U.S Global Leadership Coalition. He holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from the U.S Naval Academy and Naval Postgraduate School, as well as a Master of Arts in International Relations from the U.S Naval War College.

Kay Hindes of Pleasanton is an archaeologist with extensive knowledge in her field. She previously served as the city archaeologist for San Antonio and is a member of several organizations including the Texas Archeological Society and Southern Texas Archaeological Society. Hindes also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Dick Tips, chairman and CEO of R.D Tips Inc., has been appointed to the Commission for his contributions to preserving historic landmarks in Texas. His work includes restoration projects for notable sites such as Fairmount Hotel, Espada Dam and Acequia, Hemisfair Park clock tower, and Mission Burial Park South water tower. Tips attended both Texas A&M University and The University of Texas.

John W. Crain from Dallas has been reappointed to his position as vice-chairman on the Commission. He has an impressive background in history and serves on various boards such as Summerlee Foundation and The Bryan Museum. Crain is also a former president of the Texas State Historical Association and has received degrees from UT Austin and Texas State University. He also holds certificates in Arts Management from Harvard University and Museum Management from the University of California at Berkeley.

Gilbert E. "Pete" Peterson III, a resident of Alpine, brings over 50 years of professional experience to the Commission. His expertise lies in education, investments, timberland, and ranching. Peterson has also been actively involved in volunteer work in the Trans-Pecos region, serving on boards for organizations such as Davis Mountains Trans-Pecos Heritage Association and Museum of the Big Bend. He holds degrees in Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University.
