~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of Geanie W. Morrison to the Texas Ethics Commission for a term that will end on November 19, 2027. Morrison, a resident of Victoria, brings with her a wealth of experience and expertise in public service.

Morrison has an impressive background in politics, having served an impressive 13 terms in the Texas House of Representatives. During her time as a representative for House District 30, which includes Aransas, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Refugio and Victoria counties, she made significant contributions to the state's legislation.

One of her most notable achievements was authoring the country's first Baby Moses legislation in 1999. This groundbreaking legislation provided desperate mothers with a responsible alternative to newborn abandonment. As a result of its passage, all 50 states have implemented similar measures and hundreds of newborns have been saved nationwide - nearly 100 in Texas alone.

Morrison's dedication to public service is evident through her involvement in various committees during her tenure as a representative. She served on 14 different committees including the Redistricting Committee, Appropriations Committee, Culture, Recreation and Tourism Committee, Insurance Committee, Select Committee on Mass Violence Prevention and Community Safety, Select Committee on Ports, Innovation and Infrastructure, and the Joint Interim Committee on Higher Education Formula Funding.

In addition to her work as a representative, Morrison has also held various leadership positions over the past 25 years. She has served as chair for committees such as Local and Consent Calendar Committee, Environmental Regulation Committee, Transportation Committee,Elections Committee,and Higher Education Committee.

Morrison's commitment to serving her community extends beyond politics. She has also been appointed by the governor to serve on the Texas Commission for Volunteerism and Community Service and the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission.
