~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Martin Garza and reappointed Faith Johnson and Sichan Siv to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice. Their terms are set to expire on February 1, 2031.
The Texas Board of Criminal Justice is responsible for the confinement, supervision, rehabilitation, and reintegration of convicted felons in the state. With their extensive backgrounds and experience, Garza, Johnson, and Siv are expected to bring valuable insights and expertise to the board.
Martin Garza hails from Mission and is a retired individual. He has previously served as chief of police and city manager for the City of Mission, as well as city manager for the City of Weslaco. In addition, he has also held the position of chief of staff for Hidalgo County Precinct 3. Currently, Garza serves as the chairman of the Mission Redevelopment Authority/Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1. He holds an associate degree in Law Enforcement from Laredo College (formerly known as Laredo Junior College) and a bachelor's degree in Police Administration from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UT).

Faith Johnson is a senior judge at the 363rd Judicial District Court in Dallas. She is a member of various legal associations such as the State Bar of Texas, Texas Bar Foundation, Dallas Bar Association, and J.L. Turner Legal Association. Apart from her legal career, Johnson also serves as a board member and secretary for The Potter's House of Dallas Inc., committee member and secretary for Women's Leadership Summit, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education in Community Counseling from Georgia State University. She also received her Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
Sichan Siv brings with him an impressive resume as a former United States Ambassador to the United Nations and an author. He has also served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. In addition, Siv is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and serves as a trustee for the San Antonio Museum of Art and the World Affairs Council. He is also a deacon at First Presbyterian Church San Antonio. Siv holds a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University.
With their diverse backgrounds and extensive experience, Garza, Johnson, and Siv are well-equipped to contribute to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice's mission of ensuring effective rehabilitation and reintegration of convicted felons in the state.
