~ Rockwall, Texas has been designated as the fifth Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas, Governor Greg Abbott announced today. This recognition comes after the city completed a rigorous certification process and showcases their commitment to developing tourism as an economic growth strategy.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of tourism to both the local and state economies, stating that it supports one in 11 jobs across Texas. In 2023, travelers to and within Texas generated over $193.8 billion in economic impact and supported 1.3 million jobs. He encouraged all communities in Texas to apply for this designation in order to further grow local tourism and create more jobs.
Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell also praised Rockwall for its contributions to the state's tourism industry. He highlighted the city's unique blend of lakeside fun, shopping, dining, and entertainment as an ideal North Texas getaway. Fennell expressed pride in celebrating Rockwall's ongoing efforts in driving tourism across the region.
Senator Bob Hall echoed these sentiments, stating that Rockwall's recognition as a Tourism Friendly Texas Community is a testament to its dedication to fostering tourism while showcasing its vibrant culture and natural beauty. He also emphasized how tourism not only brings visitors from around the world but also strengthens the local economy and supports job creation.

The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program is open to local governments or non-profit organizations that lead tourism promotion and development efforts. The mission of Travel Texas is to market Texas as a premier travel destination in out-of-state and international markets, generate non-Texan travel to the state, and create revenue and jobs for local communities. With this designation, Rockwall joins four other cities in Texas that have been recognized as Tourism Friendly Texas Communities.
