~ In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has announced the deployment of additional disaster recovery resources to support North Carolina's recovery efforts. This comes as Hurricane Milton approaches the Florida Peninsula, posing a new threat to the southeastern United States.

Governor Abbott stated that Texas is working closely with Florida officials and emergency response personnel to assist in their preparations for Hurricane Milton and save lives. He has deployed Texas Department of Public Safety officers and personnel, as well as Texas National Guard aircraft, to aid in Florida's search and rescue efforts.

The Governor emphasized the importance of hurricane preparedness, stating that Texans understand firsthand the devastation that can be caused by these natural disasters. He urged his fellow Texans to join him and his wife Cecilia in praying for Florida as they brace for the impact of Hurricane Milton.

Under the direction of Governor Abbott, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has activated various state resources to support Florida's emergency response operations. This was done following a request from the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

The resources being deployed include military aircraft such as Blackhawks and Chinooks from the Texas National Guard, which will assist with urban search and rescue, transportation of personnel and supplies, and extraction efforts. Over 180 state troopers and law enforcement personnel from the Texas Department of Public Safety have also been deployed, along with command vehicles and communications platforms. Helicopters with hoist capabilities and the Texas Highway Patrol Tactical Marine Unit will support flood rescue operations.

In addition, Governor Abbott has directed TDEM to deploy emergency management personnel to North Carolina to continue supporting their recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene. This was done following a request from North Carolina Emergency Management.

The deployment of these resources is coordinated under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which is a state-to-state mutual aid system that enables states to provide assistance and share resources in times of disaster or emergency. EMAC members can share resources from all disciplines, protect personnel who deploy, and be reimbursed for mission-related costs.
