Governor Abbott Grants Clemency To Six Texans Recommended By Texas Board Of Pardons And Paroles

~ In a move to improve the criminal justice system and reduce recidivism in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has granted pardons and restoration of civil rights to six individuals recommended by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Among those granted clemency are Maria Del Refugio Argote, Tasha LaShay Castaneda, Joshua Ryan Cochran, Jennifer Ann Drane, Lucas John Flores, and Mark Anthony Morales. Each of these individuals had been convicted of various offenses in the past.

Argote, now 40 years old, was convicted of burglary of a motor vehicle in 2003 in Wharton County. She was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay a $200 fine and restitution.

Castaneda, 42 years old, had two convictions for theft by check in 2003 and 2004 in Hockley County. For the first offense, she was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay a $100 fine and restitution. For the second offense, she was also ordered to pay a $100 fine and restitution.

Cochran, now 36 years old, was convicted of possession of marijuana in Bexar County in 2007. He received deferred adjudication probation and was ordered to pay a $250 fine.

Drane, at age 54, had a conviction for theft by check in Lee County dating back to 1993. She was ordered to pay a $25 fine and restitution.

Flores, now 50 years old, was convicted of deadly conduct in Hardeman County in 2000. He received deferred adjudication probation and was ordered to pay a $750 fine and restitution.

Morales, at age 36, had a conviction for criminal mischief in Washington County from 2008. He also received deferred adjudication probation and was ordered to pay a $500 fine and restitution.

Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude towards the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for their work in recommending clemency for these individuals. He stated that they have shown qualities deserving of a second chance through their dedication to changing their lives and service to their communities. With this act of clemency, these six Texans now have the opportunity to move forward and make positive contributions to society.
