~ Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to aid the recovery efforts in seven East Texas counties that have been severely impacted by recent storms and flooding. The affected counties include Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Newton, Panola, Shelby, and Tyler.
In a statement released today, Governor Abbott declared a disaster in these counties to ensure that all necessary resources are readily available to support the affected communities. He also expressed his gratitude towards the Texas Division of Emergency Management and first responders who have been working tirelessly to assist their fellow Texans.
Local and state officials are currently assessing the damage caused by the severe weather. As flood waters recede, these assessments will continue and decisions will be made regarding eligibility for federal disaster assistance. It is possible that additional counties may be added to the declaration as more information becomes available.

To aid in this process, Governor Abbott is urging Texans to self-report any damages to their homes or businesses using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). This tool can be accessed at damage.tdem.texas.gov and provides crucial information for officials to identify immediate resource needs and determine eligibility for assistance. The survey is available in both English and Spanish and includes tutorial videos to assist with submission.
State agencies are also working closely with local officials to provide support as needed. The Texas Division of Emergency Management has personnel on the ground in affected communities, working alongside local officials to aid in recovery efforts.
The Governor's disaster declaration serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for severe weather events. Texans are encouraged to stay informed about potential hazards and have an emergency plan in place for themselves and their families.
