~ During a press conference held at the Hill Country Youth Event Center, Governor Greg Abbott provided an update on Texas' response to severe flooding in Kerr County and surrounding areas. The Governor also issued a disaster declaration for 15 counties affected by the extreme weather conditions.
Governor Abbott expressed the need for unity and faith during this difficult time, stating, "This is a time when we, as a state, need God more than ever." He also acknowledged the outpouring of prayers for those in harm's way and emphasized the collaboration between state and local officials to address concerns as quickly as possible.
As part of this effort, Governor Abbott signed a disaster declaration to ensure that affected counties have access to all necessary resources from the State of Texas. He assured that these resources will be limitless in order to aid in recovery efforts.
The press conference was attended by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Chief of Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) Nim Kidd, Adjutant General of Texas Major General Thomas Suelzer, Colonel Freeman Martin from Texas Department of Public Safety, Kerrville Mayor Joe Herring, and other local officials.

Governor Abbott stressed that Texas is still in a search and rescue mode and promised that the state will provide all necessary resources to locate and account for every missing person. He also mentioned that the federal government has offered support and resources to assist in response efforts.
The 15 counties included in the Governor's declaration are Bandera, Coke, Comal, Concho, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reeves San Saba,and Tom Green. More counties may be added at a later date.
To address the flooding threat across the state,Texas has deployed over 1,000 state responders and more than 800 vehicles and equipment assets. Additionally,the State Emergency Operations Center (SOC) has been raised to Level II (Escalated Response) and additional state emergency response resources have been activated by TDEM.
In preparation for the heavy rainfall and flash flooding, TDEM had already deployed state emergency response resources on Wednesday. Texans are urged to follow instructions from local officials and can find flood resources online at disaster.texas.gov.
