~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced the reappointment of Robert "Sean" McCleskey as the Independent Ombudsman for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). McCleskey, a resident of San Antonio, will serve in this role until February 1, 2027.
The Office of the Independent Ombudsman is a state agency that works towards protecting the rights of children who are committed to TJJD. As an ombudsman, McCleskey will be responsible for investigating and evaluating any issues that may arise within the department.
McCleskey brings a wealth of experience to this position. He previously served as chief criminal investigator for the Bexar County District Attorney's Office and also worked as a deputy sheriff in the Bexar County Sheriff's Office Intelligence Unit. In addition, he spent over 16 years with the United States Secret Service as a special agent and task force group leader.

He is also an active member of various professional organizations such as the Texas District & County Attorneys Association, Texas Municipal Police Association, State Bar of Texas, and the Texas Police Chiefs Association. McCleskey has also shared his knowledge and expertise as an adjunct professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
McCleskey holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Criminal Justice from Texas Christian University and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary's School of Law.
It should be noted that this appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. Governor Abbott expressed his confidence in McCleskey's abilities and believes he will continue to serve with integrity and dedication in his role as Independent Ombudsman for TJJD.
