Governor Abbott Requests Federal Disaster Assistance For Additional Texas Counties Impacted By Flooding

~ As the state of Texas continues to grapple with the aftermath of devastating flooding, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to provide aid and support to affected communities. Today, he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to request additional counties be added to President Donald J. Trump's Major Disaster Declaration.

The five counties – Burnet, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson – have been identified as eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Individual Assistance programs. This means that residents in these areas may be able to receive financial assistance for qualifying disaster-related expenses. In addition, four counties – Kendall, Kimble, Menard, and San Saba – have been identified as eligible for FEMA's Public Assistance Program, which provides assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.

Governor Abbott expressed his commitment to supporting those impacted by the flooding, stating "The State of Texas continues to stand with those impacted by the devastating flooding across the state." He also thanked President Trump and his administration for their swift and continued support in this time of crisis.

The decision to request additional counties for federal assistance was based on a review of damage assessments that showed they exceeded federal criteria. As more damage assessments are completed in other impacted communities, additional counties may be added.

Texans who have been affected by the flooding can apply for FEMA disaster assistance online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. The Governor also announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Program will be available for physical and economic losses in counties approved for Individual Assistance.

This latest development comes after President Trump approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Kerr County on Sunday. This declaration allows qualifying Texans in Kerr County who sustained damage to apply for grant funding to assist with repair and recovery expenses.

Governor Abbott has been actively involved in coordinating response efforts and providing updates to the public. He has directed the state's ongoing flood response and recovery efforts, announced disaster unemployment assistance for flood impacts, and surveyed the damage in affected areas.

In addition, he has increased the readiness level of the State Operations Center and deployed state emergency response resources ahead of the rain and flooding threat. The Governor also obtained approval from President Trump for federal disaster assistance as part of a Major Disaster Declaration and amended the state's disaster declaration to include additional impacted counties.

As Texas continues to face challenges from severe weather, Governor Abbott remains committed to providing all necessary resources to local officials as they respond to flooding. The state will continue to deploy all available resources and support until the job is done.
