~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has signed Senate Bill 7 and House Joint Resolution 7 into law, marking the largest generational investment in the state's water infrastructure. The bill signing ceremony took place at SIMFLO and was attended by state and local officials, as well as business leaders.

During the ceremony, Governor Abbott emphasized the critical need for water in Texas and how this new law will secure the state's water future for generations to come. He also highlighted his call for a historic investment in water during his State of the State Address earlier this year.

The $20 billion investment, written by Chairman Charles Perry and Chairman Cody Harris, will go towards both new water supply projects and repairing existing infrastructure. This proactive approach to addressing Texas' current and future water needs was praised by Speaker Dustin Burrows.

Speaker Burrows also acknowledged the collaboration between Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Senator Perry, and Chairman Harris that made this legislation possible. He emphasized that this investment will not only ensure access to water for Texans but also support economic growth and job creation across the state.

Chairman Perry echoed these sentiments, stating that Senate Bill 7 is a generational investment that will secure Texas' water future for years to come. He expressed gratitude towards Governor Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Patrick, Speaker Burrows, and Chairman Harris for their leadership in making this initiative a reality.

Chairman Harris emphasized the importance of investing in Texas' water infrastructure to support its growing population and economy. He stated that Senate Bill 7 and House Joint Resolution 7 are "Texas-sized" investments that will create jobs, support population growth, and attract new investments in water infrastructure.

Governor Abbott addressed a crowd of over 150 water industry workers and supporters at the ceremony. He highlighted how this investment will address Texans' daily water needs while also ensuring that Texas remains the best state to live, work, and raise a family.

Senate Bill 7 assigns the Texas Water Development Board with the responsibility of coordinating water supply conveyance and expands the uses of the New Water Supply for Texas Fund. House Joint Resolution 7, a constitutional amendment, dedicates a portion of the state's sales and use taxes to the Texas Water Fund and allows for the allocation and use of this revenue.

In his 2025 State of the State Address, Governor Abbott declared a Texas-sized investment in water infrastructure an emergency item for this legislative session. With the signing of Senate Bill 7 and House Joint Resolution 7 into law, this emergency has been addressed, and Texans can look forward to a more secure water future.
