~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas took the opportunity to showcase the state's successful job training programs during a recent tour with manufacturing students at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Waco. The Governor also held a press conference at the college, where he praised the impact of these programs on the state's manufacturing industry and celebrated National Manufacturing Day.
In his address, Governor Abbott emphasized the strength of the "Made in Texas" brand and its influence not only in America but also around the world. He credited this success to the state's robust manufacturing sector and partnerships with institutions like TSTC, which provide career and technical skills training for high-demand, well-paying jobs.
The Governor highlighted a job training grant of over $179,000 that he awarded to TSTC earlier this year. This grant allowed 100 employees of Hendrick Health System to receive customized training in the healthcare industry. Governor Abbott also shared an inspiring story about a woman he met in Houston who had previously been homeless. After completing a job training program, she was able to purchase her own home and now earns more than the Governor himself.

Joining Governor Abbott at the press conference and tour were TSTC Chancellor Mike Reeser, Texas Association of Manufacturers Workforce Chair Martha Landwehr, state officials, and local business leaders. The Governor also issued a proclamation earlier this week recognizing September 30 through October 4 as Manufacturing Week in Texas.
Governor Abbott's visit to TSTC is part of his broader strategy to build a better prepared and better paid workforce in Texas. By investing in job training programs and partnerships with institutions like TSTC, he hopes to provide more Texans with opportunities for career advancement and higher wages.
As National Manufacturing Day approaches tomorrow, Governor Abbott's message serves as a reminder of the significant impact that manufacturing has on Texas' economy. With strong job training programs and partnerships in place, "Made in Texas" will continue to be a powerful brand for years to come.
