~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed three individuals to the Red River Authority of Texas Board of Directors. Jerry Dan Davis, Mike Sandefur, and Joe L. Ward will continue to serve on the board until August 11, 2029.
The Red River Authority of Texas is responsible for managing and preserving the watershed and water resources of the Red River and its tributaries in Texas. With their extensive experience and expertise, these reappointments are expected to contribute significantly to the Authority's mission.
Jerry Dan Davis hails from Wellington and is a well-known owner and operator of a farm and ranch operation in Collingsworth, Childress, and Hall counties. He holds a bachelor's degree in General Agriculture from West Texas A&M University. Davis is currently serving on various boards such as the Panhandle Peanut Growers Board, Farmers Co-Op Gin Board, and Collingsworth County Agricultural Board. He has also previously served on the Wellington ISD School Board and Collingsworth County Library Board.
Mike Sandefur, CEO of Loblolly Land Company, Barkman Creek Land Company, and Barkman Bluff Farms, brings a wealth of knowledge to the board. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as Master's degrees in Accounting and Business Management from Rice University. Sandefur has served on several boards including Texarkana College Foundation, Texarkana College Board of Trustees (as former president), Sulphur River Basin River Authority Board of Directors (as former chairman), Financial Advisory Committee of Bowie County (as former chairman), and Salvation Army Advisory Board in Texarkana.

Joe L. Ward is a full-time rancher from Telephone who operates a Red Angus/Santa Gertrudis cow-calf operation on the Bar S Ranch. He has been actively involved in his community as a founding board member of Fannin County Multi-Purpose Complex, volunteer for the Telephone Volunteer Fire Department, director for the Bigbee Cemetery, and member of the Telephone Baptist Church. Ward is also a former gubernatorial appointee to the State Soil and Water Conservation Board and has served on the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He has also served in the Army National Guard and Air National Guard.
These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation, but it is expected that these individuals will continue to serve with dedication and contribute to the success of the Red River Authority of Texas. With their diverse backgrounds and experiences, Davis, Sandefur, and Ward are well-equipped to make informed decisions for the benefit of the Authority and its stakeholders.
