Radio Not, here we come! - KLKT to disrupt central Texas Airwaves starting June 1, 2024
AUSTIN, Texas - Txylo -- Radio Lockhart, the newest community radio station in central Texas, is excited to announce its official launch on June 1st via 107.9 FM and online at klkt.org. Broadcasting 24/7 from Lockhart, TX, the station aims to disrupt commercial radio by showcasing the talent of the Lockhart community through unique educational and music programming.
Located just outside Austin, the live music capital of the world, KLKT will offer an authentic alternative to traditional radio. Highlighting regional talent, the station will feature a variety of programs, including local music, educational segments, talk shows, live news, and event coverage.
"The trend towards hyper-local community radio is growing", says co-founder Paul Arndt. "Communities are seeking creative and local programming over commercialized media. People are sick of hearing the same 10 songs and overproduced ads on traditional radio stations".
Founded in 2023 by Grace Reyer, Max Yancy, and Paul Arndt, KLKT is a 100% volunteer-driven initiative. The station prides itself on being community-run, with volunteers handling everything from engineering to fundraising. This grassroots approach ensures that the station remains connected to its audience and true to its mission.

"There are no salaries at KLKT. Everyone here is passionate about community and radio. Our programmers produce their own shows, curate the music library, and sweep the floors. It really gives people an opportunity to feel like they are a part of something bigger. Lockhart has a lot of talent, and we are stoked to provide a platform", says co-founder, Max Yancy.
"Our goal is to create a radio station that truly belongs to the people of Lockhart," adds Grace Reyer. "We want everyone to feel like they have a stake in KLKT, whether they're tuning in, volunteering, or sharing their music and stories."
KLKT will be hosting an open house to "flip the switch" at the studio on June 1, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm. The community is encouraged to stop by, meet the team, and take a peek at the broadcast studio. The studio is located at 1017 W. San Antonio St. #101 Lockhart, TX 78644. If you're unable to attend, tune in to 107.9 FM locally, or at klkt.org worldwide.
