AUSTIN, Texas - Txylo -- According to the 2019-2020 National Pet Owners Survey, 67 percent of U.S. households own at least one pet, up from 56 percent in 1988. Almost 64 million U.S. families own one or more dogs, and there are many reasons why — most dogs are loyal, protective, and affectionate companions.

1. Wash the wound site with mild soap and warm water for at least five minutes;

2. Use a clean cloth to slow the bleeding;

3. Apply antibiotic ointment;

4. Wrap the wound site with a sterile bandage;

5. See a doctor;

6. Change the bandage as recommended;

7. Monitor for infection; and
