SAN ANTONIO (September 18, 2019) - Animal Care Services is highlighting World Rabies Awareness Day with vaccinations and visuals. 9 year old Raya Bailey, who wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up, was the first place winner in ACS' recent rabies awareness poster contest with artwork that urges residents to be superheroes for their pets. "When my grandma told me about this contest, I was thrilled to do a project that will help people remember to give their animals shots to keep them safe and healthy," said Bailey. "I love doing art too!" With that safety and health in mind, Animal Care Services is partnering with local veterinary service, PetShotz, Monday, September 23rd, to provide free rabies shots and microchips for San Antonio pet owners while they last. The clinic, which runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., will take place at the shelter located at 4710 State Highway 151. Other low cost wellness services will be available and ACS bite investigators will also be on hand to offer educational information. World Rabies Awareness Day is observed annually on the 28th of September and hopes to create and spread awareness about the deadly virus that can be caused by contact with wildlife or pets who have not been vaccinated.stats
