SAN ANTONIO (September 3, 2021) – The risk of contracting COVID-19 in San Antonio remains at a severe level. To date, 69.5 percent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated and the seven-day average of reported new cases is 1,189.

"The fight against COVID-19 has been an all-hands effort across the city for many months," said Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda. "We've come to a point where we need to be creative, to join forces with other organizations to provide incentives that will break through the reluctance that some people have to get the vaccine."

To this end, District 6 worked to bring the Metropolitan Health District together with the Edgewood Independent School District (EISD) and the San Antonio Spurs to offer a motivation for the unvaccinated to get past their reluctance.

"There are several reasons that the unvaccinated have for not getting the vaccine," said the Councilwoman, "but we think that offering a chance to win Spurs game tickets and an authentic Parker #9 retirement commemorative jersey is reason enough to push through any San Antonian's hesitation."

The EISD is providing the perfect location for the drive-through vaccination event—The Edgewood Theater of the Performing Arts, located at 402 Lance St. The clinic is scheduled for Saturday, September 4th, from 9AM to 11AM and is open to residents from all parts of the city.

The Metropolitan Health District will administer Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines and will also have a limited number of back-to-school vaccinations available for kids who may still need them.

The San Antonio Food Bank will provide produce packages for the first 50 vaccinations and Ballapeño, the San Antonio Missions mascot, will be there as well to greet families as they come by.
