SAN ANTONIO (October 17, 2019) — City Council unanimously approved case Z-6 on today's Zoning agenda which requested future expansion of the offices of the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES). Located in the Five Points neighborhood in District 1, RAICES is the largest non-profit organization to provide immigrant legal services in the state. District 1 City Councilman Roberto Treviño supported the zoning change and provided the following statement:

"With the current status of migrant displacement and separation, District 1 is grateful for the opportunity to support benevolent organizations like RAICES. I am proud to support the ongoing efforts of RAICES as they defend the rights of underserved immigrant children and families.

I appreciate the work of this outstanding organization as well as the efforts of the applicant, Ms. Sue Hammond, in providing our city with this opportunity. The Five Points neighborhood is in full support of RAICES' mission and expansion, which fits in their neighborhood plan and is emblematic of the character of the neighborhood.

I look forward to the growth and success of RAICES here and across the country. Even more so, I look forward to the day when our immigration policies and processes evolve to be more humane and accessible."stats
