San Antonio (August 3, 2022) — Following the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the District 2 office collectively released a statement to denounce the decision, and affirmed our support for abortion seekers, providers, and supporters. In a personal video, the District 2 Councilman was one of the first to publicly advocate for the need to pass a resolution or policy similar to Austin's GRACE Act in order to protect the sacredness of bodily autonomy in any capacity our city government can. District 2 is grateful to Councilwoman Castillo and Mayor Nirenberg for collaborating to ensure a resolution and special session were set to further discuss amongst the City Council.

The District 2 office received many messages from concerned constituents and advocates including: Planned Parenthood South Texas, Lilith Fund, URGE, Southwest Workers Union, Women's March SATX, Equality Texas, ACT4SA, and Healthcare Now amongst others. We thank them for their tireless work over many years and today.
The District 2 Councilman stated, "I have and will always support the right to abortion for anyone at any time. Abortion is healthcare. The continued attacks on our inalienable freedoms means we will continue to fight. I wholeheartedly support this resolution and am grateful for its passage to show San Antonians that your elected officials respect your right to bodily autonomy. We look forward to further conversations with state and federal officials about more tactics we can take to affirm abortion access."
