SAN ANTONIO (February 26, 2024) ~ On February 26, 2024, Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran and her team in District 3 organized a special event to honor the senior residents of their community. The "You Matter" Health Fair, held at the Southside Lions Senior Center, was dedicated to promoting self-love and self-care among the elderly population.

Councilwoman Viagran emphasized that February is not just about traditional symbols of love like flowers and chocolates, but also a time to reflect on the importance of taking care of oneself regardless of age. By bringing together various organizations and providing resources and on-site checkups, the fair aimed to educate seniors about the opportunities available to them in the city.

The Councilwoman expressed her gratitude towards the organizations that participated in the event, including The Gonzaba Foundation, WellMed, Texas Diaper Bank, SAFD, Via, SAWS, CPS, Metro Health, and the Emergency Management Department. Their presence made the celebration even more special for the beloved seniors of District 3 who spend their time at senior centers.

Viagran stressed that practicing self-love and self-care is crucial for overall health and happiness. She believes that senior residents have a wealth of experiences and stories to share and it is essential to ensure they have the best quality of life possible. By embracing self-love and taking care of their physical, mental, and emotional well-being, seniors can lead fulfilling lives.

The event also provided an opportunity for seniors to learn about joining a Senior Center through the City's website. Various organizations set up tables at the fair to provide information and resources for seniors. The Emergency Management Department also had a table at the event.

SAWS (San Antonio Water System), Texas Diaper Bank, and SAWS (CPS Energy) were among some of the organizations present at the fair. They all played a vital role in making this event a success by providing valuable information and resources to the senior residents of District 3.

The "You Matter" Health Fair was a heartwarming and meaningful way to end the month of February, reminding seniors that they are loved and valued members of the community. The District 3 team hopes to continue organizing such events throughout the year to promote self-love and self-care among their beloved seniors.
