SAN ANTONIO (June 17, 2021) – Metro Health is getting in on the Fiesta fun, and along with cracking cascarones and handing out Fiesta medals, the COVID-19 vaccine will be offered to revelers via pop-up clinics at eight official Fiesta events thanks in part to the Fiesta San Antonio Commission.

"After Fiesta was cancelled last year because of the pandemic, we know San Antonio is ready to celebrate this city-wide party, but we also want to make sure people continue to get vaccinated, so we want to do whatever we can to reach people wherever they might be," said Dr. Anita Kurian, Metro Health Assistant Director. "We are also grateful to the Fiesta San Antonio Commission and Fiesta Organizers for working with us to have our mobile clinics at Fiesta."

"As we prepare to celebrate Fiesta 2021, we are happy to partner with Metro Health to have the COVID vaccine at our official events to get more people vaccinated to help make San Antonio a safer community against COVID-19," said Steve Rosenauer, Executive Director of Fiesta San Antonio Commission.

As Fiesta moves to the middle of June this year, Metro Health advises people to dress accordingly because of expected high temperatures. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, wear a hat or cap, use sunscreen and seek shade during the afternoon hours. Cooling stations coordinated by the San Antonio Fire Department and VIA will be located throughout each Fiesta event where people can go if they begin to feel unwell because of the heat. Individuals will be required to use a face mask to enter a VIA cooling center bus.
