SAN ANTONIO (June 16, 2021) – The stabilization and partial demolition of the historic Whitt Printing Building, approved earlier this month by the City's Historic and Design Review Commission and city staff, began today to maintain the public safety in and around the structure.  The plan includes the preservation of the full concrete structural frame and bracing of the facade. The unstable roof, debris inside and concrete masonry infill walls will be removed. These steps will maintain the original historic structural portions of the building, while addressing public safety concerns.

"Many residents have contacted the City today concerned with the preservation of the Whitt Building. Our staff and that from the Office of Historic Preservation have been, and will continue, to oversee and monitor the progress to ensure it fully complies with the permitted plan. Safeguarding the safety of the community, as well as protecting the historic fabric are both priorities for the City of San Antonio," said Michael Shannon, Development Services Director.
