San Antonio’s Smarter Together Initiative Named Award Finalist

SAN ANTONIO (February 26, 2024) ~ San Antonio, TX - The City of San Antonio has been recognized for its advancements in Smart Cities projects and has been named a finalist in the IDC Government Insights' seventh annual Smart Cities North America Awards (SCNAA). The city was selected as a finalist in the Administration category for its Smarter Together Initiative.

The Smarter Together Initiative, launched by the City's Office of Innovation in June 2023, has made unprecedented progress in creating and sustaining smart city projects. This initiative is comprised of a community-driven framework, a smart city testbed, and a governance model called "Smart Cities as a Service" that streamlines the process for prototyping emerging technologies.

Chief Innovation Officer Brian Dillard expressed his pride in the city's approach to implementing a smart cities program. "Our thoughtful and collaborative approach to implementing a smart cities program in the City of San Antonio has been a process of prototype, learn, and pivot," he said. "That also applies to how we work with residents and staff intended to benefit from our efforts. Our Smarter Together Initiative formalizes that and exemplifies the community-driven framework that we established from the beginning."

As part of the nomination process, IDC is inviting the public to vote on the finalists through Survey Monkey. The voting will remain open until Friday, March 8th. The winners will be announced on March 27th at Smart Cities Connect being held May 7-10 in Raleigh, NC.

The finalists for SCNAA were chosen based on their ability to effectively leverage technology and innovation to offer new services and economic opportunities while meeting the needs and expectations of citizens and residents. San Antonio's Smarter Together Initiative stood out for its progress in creating sustainable smart city projects.
