~ As severe weather is expected to hit Texas this weekend, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to ensure the safety of the state's residents. The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has been directed by the governor to activate state emergency response resources.
In a statement, Governor Abbott expressed his readiness to respond to the anticipated storms and urged Texans to remain vigilant and prepared. He also emphasized the importance of following the guidance of local officials and first responders.
According to the National Weather Service, severe thunderstorms are expected to impact western parts of Texas today before moving eastward over the weekend. The storm system is predicted to reach North and Central Texas before moving towards East and Southeast Texas early next week. Risks associated with these storms include heavy rainfall, flash flooding, large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes.

In response to Governor Abbott's directive, TDEM has activated resources such as Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads and a Water Group Supervisor from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1). Additionally, other state resources have been placed on standby in anticipation of storm impacts. These include Game Wardens and Boat Squads from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, as well as Severe Weather Support Packages from the Texas Department of State Health Services' Emergency Medical Task Force.
Texans are advised to stay updated on local weather forecasts and make necessary preparations for potential severe weather. This includes creating an emergency plan and keeping an emergency supply kit readily available. Road conditions can be checked at DriveTexas.org while severe weather safety tips can be found at TexasReady.gov. Flood information can be accessed at TexasFlood.org, and general disaster preparedness information is available at tdem.texas.gov/prepare.
Governor Abbott's proactive measures demonstrate his commitment to ensuring the safety of Texans during this potentially dangerous weather event. Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions and heed any warnings or instructions from local authorities to protect themselves and their loved ones.
