~ As severe weather looms over East and Southeast Texas this weekend, Governor Greg Abbott has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents. In a statement released today, the governor directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources in anticipation of heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
"Texas is deploying emergency response resources ahead of severe weather," Governor Abbott stated. "As heavy rainfall and flash flooding threats begin this weekend, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads and search and rescue teams to help local officials respond throughout the heavy rainfall and storms."
The National Weather Service has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in East and Southeast Texas starting on Sunday and lasting into the overnight hours. This could potentially lead to flash flooding in the area.

In response to the governor's directive, TDEM has activated several state emergency response resources to support local flood response operations. These include Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads from Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1) and Game Warden Search and Rescue Boat Teams from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Governor Abbott urges Texans to stay informed about the weather conditions, make an emergency plan, and follow guidance from state and local officials. He also reminds residents to "Turn Around, Don't Drown" if they encounter flooded roads.
To assist with preparedness efforts, Texans can access flood information at TexasFlood.org, check road conditions at DriveTexas.org, find flood safety information at TexasReady.org, and access general preparedness tips at tdem.texas.gov/prepare.
Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions as they prepare for potential severe weather this weekend. By staying informed and following safety protocols, Texans can help keep themselves and their loved ones safe during this time of potential danger.
