Texas: Governor Abbott Amends, Renews Drought Disaster Proclamation In July 2024

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has declared a state of disaster in 47 counties due to ongoing drought conditions. The proclamation, issued on July 28, 2024, amends and renews a previous disaster proclamation from July 8, 2022.

The initial disaster proclamation was issued after Governor Abbott determined that exceptional drought conditions posed an imminent threat in several counties. The Texas Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that these conditions continue to exist in the affected counties, with the exception of Calhoun, Colorado, Edwards, Lavaca, Matagorda, Tom Green, Wharton, and Zavala.

In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in Bandera, Bee, Blanco, Burnet, Cameron, Comal, Comanche, Concho, Culberson, Denton, El Paso, Hamilton,Hays,Hidalgo,Hudspeth,Irion,Jeff Davis,Karnes,Kendall,Kent,Kerr,Kinney,Llano,Lubbock,Maverick,

Presidio,

Real,Terrell,

Travis,Uvalde,

Val Verde,

Victoria,

Willacy,

Williamson,Wilson,and Zapata Counties.

The Governor has also authorized the use of all available resources of state government and political subdivisions to cope with this disaster under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code.

Furthermore,pursuant to Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code,the Governor has suspended any regulatory statutes or orders that would hinder necessary action in response to this disaster. This includes any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement that may impede emergency response efforts.

As required by law,copies of this proclamation have been filed with relevant authorities. The Governor's official signature and the Seal of State were affixed at his office in Austin on July 28th.

This declaration of disaster serves as a call to action for all Texans to take necessary precautions and follow any emergency protocols in their respective counties. The Governor urges residents to stay informed and prepared as the state continues to face these challenging drought conditions.
