~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has declared a state of disaster in 75 counties due to ongoing drought conditions. The proclamation, issued on September 26, 2024, amends and renews a previous disaster proclamation from July 8, 2022.

The initial disaster proclamation was issued after Governor Abbott determined that exceptional drought conditions posed an imminent threat in several counties. The Texas Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that these conditions continue to exist in the affected counties, with the exception of Bee, Concho, Kent, Kinney, Pecos, Terrell, and Wilson.

In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in Archer, Bandera, Bastrop, Bexar, Blanco, Brewster, Burnet, Calhoun, Cameron and many other counties. This declaration authorizes the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to cope with the disaster.

Furthermore, pursuant to Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has authorized the suspension of any regulatory statutes or orders that may hinder necessary action in response to this disaster. This includes any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement that may impede emergency response efforts.

The governor's proclamation also states that copies will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law. It is signed by Governor Abbott and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.

This declaration comes as Texas continues to face severe drought conditions in many parts of the state. The governor's office urges residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions and follow any evacuation orders or emergency procedures issued by local authorities.
