~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded five Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants totaling over $1,174,500 to schools in the Rio Grande Valley region. These grants will support career and technical education (CTE) training programs by providing funding for equipment purchases and installations. The goal is to initially train 2,140 students for high-demand occupations such as nursing and mechanics.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of a skilled workforce in Texas' booming economy. He stated, "These career training grants will help students in the Rio Grande Valley gain the skills they need to compete in high-demand industries and drive our state's continued growth." He also expressed his gratitude to TWC for investing in the next generation of workers and helping them build a better future for themselves, their families, and the state.

Earlier today, Commissioner Treviño presented the awards at a ceremony held at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. The event was attended by state and local officials as well as school staff.

The JET grants are made possible through funding provided by the Texas Legislature every two years. TWC uses these grants to cover start-up costs for developing or expanding CTE programs in public community, state and technical colleges, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools. The equipment purchased with JET grants must be used to train students for high-demand occupations.
