~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced a significant investment in the workforce of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant, totaling $262,944, has been awarded to Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). This grant will provide customized training to 317 employees of Lone Star National Bank for high-demand occupations in the commercial banking industry.
According to Governor Abbott, this investment is crucial for the continued growth of the state's economy. "As our state's economy continues to grow, it is critical that we invest in our workforce to ensure key industries have the talent they need to thrive," he stated. He also expressed his gratitude towards TWC for their partnership with Lone Star National Bank in providing necessary training tools for over 300 employees.
TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel also emphasized the importance of this grant in supporting Texas businesses and improving the skills of workers. "The Skills Development Fund grant is a powerful tool to aid in the success of the Texas workforce," he said.

The award was presented earlier today by TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III during a ceremony held at Lone Star National Bank's corporate office in McAllen. Representatives from Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley, Lone Star National Bank, and other local partners were present at the event.
The SDF program is a collaboration between TWC, public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. It aims to provide customized and innovative training opportunities for businesses of all sizes in Texas.
Since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has partnered with over 4,900 employers and created over 435,000 jobs throughout Texas by providing training opportunities. This latest grant will further contribute to upskilling and supporting the creation of jobs in high-demand industries such as commercial banking.
