~ In a move to support career and technical education training programs, Governor Greg Abbott announced today that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant of over $331,000 to Amarillo College. This grant will enable the school to purchase and install equipment to train 80 students as welders.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in the state's workforce, especially with more Texans currently employed than ever before. He stated, "This job training grant to Amarillo College will provide young Texans in the Panhandle with the skills they need to thrive in our state's booming economy." He also commended the hard work of TWC and schools across Texas for building a better economic future for all Texans.
TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel echoed this sentiment, stating that JET grants are crucial in preparing the workforce for future economic needs. With this grant, students at Amarillo College will receive welding training on state-of-the-art equipment, setting them up for long-term careers in high-demand occupations within Texas.
