~ Texarkana College has been awarded a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant of over $805,000 by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), as announced by Governor Greg Abbott today. This grant will be used to provide customized training for 335 new and current workers at Graphic Packaging International in high-demand occupations within the paper manufacturing industry.
Governor Abbott expressed his commitment to investing in hardworking Texans and ensuring that Texas remains the economic engine of the nation. He believes that this grant will equip employees with the necessary tools and skills to enhance their careers and contribute to the growth of the paper manufacturing industry in Texas. The governor also thanked TWC for their collaboration with Texarkana College in providing better job opportunities for Texans.
TWC Chairman Joe Esparza also emphasized the importance of Skills Development Fund grants in opening pathways to prosperity for local businesses and their workforce. He believes that this grant will greatly benefit Texarkana College and its partners in providing customized training to hundreds of employees in the field of paper manufacturing.

The SDF program is a workforce training grant program aimed at helping businesses upskill their new or incumbent workforce. In collaboration with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC provides customized and innovative training opportunities to businesses of all sizes in Texas.
Since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has partnered with over 4,900 employers to upgrade or create more than 435,000 jobs throughout Texas. This highlights the success and impact of this program in supporting economic growth and development within the state.
