~ El Paso, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott has announced that El Paso Community College has been awarded a Skills Development Fund grant of over $85,000 by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). This grant will be used to provide customized training to more than 100 workers at Bain Enterprises LLC for high-demand occupations in civil engineering.

Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in the state's workforce in order to build a stronger and more prosperous Texas. He stated, "To build a stronger, more prosperous Texas, we need to continue to make critical investments to our world-class workforce." This is why he made expanding career training an emergency item during this legislative session. The grant awarded to El Paso Community College will provide workers with the necessary skills and training to succeed in high-demand careers such as civil engineering.

During a ceremony held at El Paso Community College's Administration Services Center earlier today, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III presented the award to representatives from El Paso Community College, Bain Enterprises LLC, and other local partners. This ceremony was attended by various stakeholders who have played a crucial role in making this grant possible.

The Skills Development Fund (SDF) is a state-funded program that aims to provide customized training opportunities for businesses of all sizes. In partnership with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC collaborates to provide innovative training solutions for businesses across Texas.

Since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has successfully provided training opportunities for over 4,900 employers and has supported the creation of more than 435,000 jobs throughout Texas. This grant awarded to El Paso Community College is another step towards TWC's goal of upskilling the state's workforce and ensuring better job opportunities for all Texans.
