~ In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved the state's request for Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) for 17 Texas counties. This assistance will provide support to those affected by the hurricane and help them recover from its devastating effects.
Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude for the approval, stating that it will ensure that Texans have access to the necessary resources to rebuild and move forward. He also emphasized that Texas will continue to work with federal, state, and local officials to provide all available assistance to those in need.
The 17 counties approved for FEMA's TSA program include Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker and Wharton. However, additional counties may become eligible as damage assessments are completed.
Under the TSA program, FEMA will cover costs directly to participating hotels and motels including room rates, taxes and some pet fees. Eligible Texans who apply for federal disaster assistance in these counties will be notified by FEMA about transitional sheltering options if they cannot return to their damaged homes and their housing needs cannot be met by insurance or other forms of assistance.

It is important to note that while the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program is a FEMA program with a cost-share with the state of Texas.
