~ In a move to strengthen the state's financial management, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Don Huffines as the new Comptroller of Public Accounts for Texas. The announcement was made today, with Governor Abbott praising Huffines' business experience and conservative principles as the perfect fit for the role.
Huffines, a fifth-generation Texan and successful businessman, co-founded Huffines Communities, one of the largest real estate development companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. He also previously served in the Texas Senate from 2015 to 2019, where he gained a reputation as a fiscal conservative and advocate for government transparency.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Huffines stated that his commitment is to run government efficiently, protect taxpayer dollars, and maintain Texas as the best place to live, raise a family, and do business.

As Comptroller, Huffines will be responsible for collecting state taxes and fees, managing state funds and unclaimed property, and providing transparency into state spending. The office plays a crucial role in maintaining Texas' fiscal strength and oversees the Economic Stabilization Fund.
Huffines holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. He is married to Mary Catherine and has five children and grandchildren. His term as Comptroller will begin on August 1st.
Governor Abbott's decision to appoint Huffines has been met with praise from fellow conservatives who believe his private-sector experience and dedication to limited government make him highly qualified for the position.
